Aboutray

Lighting Up Hope:
The Philanthropic Power and Global Impact Behind the Product

Ray was born in Taiwan, China, and is currently studying in Shanghai, where his exposure to diverse cultures has broadened his perspective. Throughout much of his life, he has been passionate about sports and outdoor activities, such as basketball and gym workouts. These two traits played a significant role in the early stages of creating Aquacendo.

During his time at the Shanghai American School, Ray actively participated in hands-on projects, which sparked his interest in innovation and creativity. One particular assignment in his social studies class caught his attention. A documentary about the challenges faced by children in developing countries deeply moved Ray, prompting him to reflect on his own privileges and his ability to make a difference in society. Driven by a sense of justice and compassion, Ray decided to take action to address this issue. That evening, he discussed and brainstormed with his mother, exploring potential solutions. From this, the concept of a filtered water bottle with a built-in light was born.

Early Enlightenment

Ray’s entrepreneurial spirit was first ignited during a small activity in eighth grade. His class participated in a task inspired by the TV show Shark Tank, where students had to present their business ideas to the entire class. The student with the best idea would be selected as the CEO, and Ray was one of them. Although his idea didn’t gain widespread support in class, he thoroughly enjoyed the process and was passionate about bringing a product to life.

Upon entering the innovation program in ninth grade, Ray further explored the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which laid the foundation for his future work. He decided to focus on SDG 6—Clean Water and Sanitation.

Development Journey

Throughout this journey, Ray continuously sought collaborative resources and meticulously refined the design of the filtered water bottle. Leveraging his exceptional research skills, creativity, and perseverance, he identified the best materials to create a product that combines efficient filtration with sustainable energy supply. Through ongoing improvements and innovation, this filtered water bottle eventually evolved into Aquacendo.

Its outstanding design has earned numerous accolades, including the Modern Contemporary Good Design Award and the Muse Design Silver Award. More importantly, Ray was honored with the 2024 Emerging Visionaries Award Gold Prize, further solidifying his vision and impact in the field of sustainability. These achievements not only validate the product’s excellence but also highlight Ray’s dedication to addressing global challenges through innovation.

Light up the hope

On December 6, 2024, a special donation ceremony was held in Burkina Faso, a landlocked country in West Africa. Representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Burkina Faso, the Ministry of Solidarity and Humanitarian Action of Burkina Faso, the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC), the Shanghai NGO Network for International Exchanges (SONGIE), the Shanghai Fosun Foundation (Fosun Foundation), and other social organizations and enterprises participated in the event.

We donated the first batch of 500 Aquacendo Light-Up Filter Bottles to Burkina Faso, providing local children with access to clean drinking water and reliable lighting. This initiative marks the beginning of our ongoing efforts to distribute Aquacendo to more third-world countries, helping those in need gain access to safe, healthy drinking water and bringing light and hope to their lives.
