The Social Impact Design category celebrates works that go beyond aesthetics and function to meaningfully improve human well-being and address global challenges. The LightUp Filtered Bottle embodies this vision. Its inspiration came from a documentary image of an African child collecting water from a puddle—an image that raised a critical question: when design is for children in survival crises rather than consumers in comfort, what role can it play?

Throughout the development process, the team emphasized real-world impact over formal breakthroughs. From filter materials and bottle durability to lighting solutions, each aspect underwent extensive testing and refinement. The final solution adopted an unconventional approach: letting the light shine inward, using water inside the bottle to diffuse a soft, even glow. By combining safe water filtration with sustainable lighting, the product addresses two essential needs in one. In December 2024, the first batch reached Burkina Faso, where children used it for drinking, studying, and lighting—real-world proof of its social impact.

We have always believed that design is not only about appearance, but also about building bridges to address humanity’s shared challenges. Receiving international recognition from IDEA affirms our team’s efforts and encourages us to continue our mission of advancing clean water and sustainable lighting.

This award not only recognizes Aquacendo’s design innovation but also highlights the global relevance of social impact design, laying a solid foundation for the brand’s future growth in both commercial and philanthropic fields.
